Spooky Sweets Without the Scary Ingredients!
A Vegans Guide to Halloween Sweets & Treats

Gone are the days when vegan trick-or-treaters had to settle for apples or loose change. This Halloween, the UK’s leading supermarkets have got you covered! Armed with a sweet tooth and a mission, I haunted the aisles of Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury's, and Tesco to discover the best vegan Halloween sweets. From own brand sweets to familiar branded favourites, I've gathered a gallery of goodies that prove you don't need animal products to celebrate in style.

Aldi's Vegan Halloween Sweets

Aldi has truly outdone themselves this Halloween with an impressive selection of vegan Halloween sweets. From their own spook-tastic selection to the branded Swizzels trick-or-treat multipacks, they've got your vegan Halloween covered and at a decent price too. I'll be getting all of my sweets from Aldi this year! BUT I will also be visiting Asda, read on for more.

Asda's Plant-Based Halloween Treats

Asda's vegan Halloween selection is by far the most varied, with standouts like the eerie 'Free From Trick or Treat Box of Frogs' and the creepy Gummy Brains! Don't miss the Horror Emporium Trick or Treat Large Cookie and the Pumpkin Crumpets - perfect for Hallows Eve morn!

Sainsbury's Vegan-Friendly Halloween Goodies

While Sainsbury's vegan Halloween selection is a bit sparse, their Fruity Bloody Bites and Salt and Vinegar Bats & Webs are frighteningly good!

Tesco's Vegan Halloween Sweets

Disappointingly, Tesco's Halloween selection lacked any variety, they do however, have the Zombie Variety pack and single flavour packs, made with 100% fruit this is by far the healthiest choice for a vegan Halloween. Tesco also have their usual own-brand vegan sweets and of course, they stock the branded favourites listed below.

Tips for Vegan Trick or Treating

Many popular sweets are accidentally vegan, and in my experience, about half of the Halloween sweets tend to be vegan-friendly. I allow my children to collect all sweets, vegan or not... We host a post-trick-or-treat swap shop at home where the kids trade their non-vegan sweets for vegan alternatives. The non-vegan treats don't go to waste – we pass them on to family. After all, standing at a neighbour's door trying to read ingredients in the dark is never fun, or telling a child they must have LESS because it's not vegan is a sure-fire way to disappointment and a Halloween that's not fun for anyone.

Halloween also offers a chance to showcase vegan treats to trick-or-treaters! I prepare individual bags filled with a variety of supermarket vegan sweets, each sealed with a fun vegan sticker. This approach is a great way to introduce the word 'vegan' to children. It's a positive way to spark curious conversations with guardians.

Remember, Halloween is about more than just the sweets – it's about the costumes, the excitement, and the community spirit. With these tips, your vegan monsters can have a brilliant time without missing out on any of the fun!
